A List Of Every Gig I Have Ever Been To

I do it because I find it nice to look back over. The oldest is at the bottom, and italics mean that I promoted or co-promoted the gig (there aren’t many of those, and they were all a long time ago). A number in brackets indicates how many times I’d seen the band, at that point. This is updated regularly.

I have seen a grand total of 1808 different bands/acts.

    Email sent.

Not a particularly helpful one, admittedly, but there we are.

Impressive. Six years of gigging in the same city/region, three gigs in common. Good choices, by the way.

  4. Russ L said, on 28 November, 2006 at 11:06 pm

Ooooh which three which three which three?

    It’s exciting.

I can’t really be doing with MySpace these days so I’ll stick this here on the off-chance you come back: Here’s what I wrote at the time. I was fairly indifferent to you but there are quite a few people in the comments thread underneath who were keen.

I THOUGHT it was you at Celtic Frost last night! Just couldn’t quite be sure, I think it was the beard that threw me, probably because the last time I saw you was about seven years ago??
Anyway if you did clock me, I wasn’t ignoring you (well I was actually, I was ignoring everyone, mainly due to the metal-induced deafness in my one remaining good ear. God they were heavy.)
Hope you enjoyed the night. I thought it was fantastic, even worth the 200-mile round trip and the drive home to wales at 2am.
Get in touch, I genuinely would like to hear from you again and there aren’t many of our peers I can say that about…
    Keep well
    Sal x

If you’re the Sal that I assume you are then it’s lovely to hear from you again (didn’t see you t’other night, though).

I will email in a little bit.

    Well…
I’ve looked at that fabulous list of yours –
and it’s fascinating to note that….
going right back to gig one… Meatloaf…. on the comeback trail, excitingly enough.. an auspicious start… through Megadeath… OK, were building a profile here…
that with the possible exception of Nick Cave and Public Enemy… and I’m guessing they must have been going through a bit of a bad patch if you rolled up… you have attended 666 of the worst gigs ever to pull into town…
I won’t bother to list ’em all, but brother is your radar seriously off beam…
You actually hav’nt seen The Stones, You’ve missed Dylan, Patti Smith , Primal Scream, The Strokes… jesus, Elvis could be resurrected, put on free at St Andrews and they could offer you a front row seat.. and youd be in some god forsaken public house reminiscing about Beverley Knight
There is a popular saying that addresses those who should get out more… It’s really rather intriguing to meet someone who should go out less.

  11. Russ L said, on 5 May, 2007 at 7:43 am

Ah come on now. You’ve got to give me Al Green as well, surely?

This is a better line of attack for you, though. At least this is logically coherent.

I think The Strokes are god awfully rotten, incidentally, although I would love to see the rest of your little Q-esque list there.

  12. Chris C said, on 6 May, 2007 at 3:43 pm

given her liking for what can only be described as the standard complement of ‘legendary’ artists (Q magazine aproved, as Russ says), it’s amazing that this Rosy doesn’t similarly acclaim not only Al Green but also Lee Scratch Perry, Jimmy Cliff, Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight. Aren’t they all similarly regarded figures?

I can’t say I adore every artist on this list, but it’s about as balanced a list in taste as you can reasonably imagine.

  13. Russ L said, on 6 May, 2007 at 5:28 pm

Cheers Chris (where have you been, anyway?).

Now that you mention those, I think you’re right and furthermore I think there’s an obvious pattern amongst them. Was her pre-emptive mention of Public Enemy enough of a token, one wonders?

  14. throughsilver said, on 9 May, 2007 at 10:55 am

Wow, The Strokes are better than ‘Megadeath’? I’ll be.

    ***

Tura Satana? Well good. Not that I’m a particular fan of Tairrie B., but that whole scene reminds me of good times in metal. In fact, she and Burt Bell went out for a while, so there’s a bit of trivia for you.

  15. Russ L said, on 9 May, 2007 at 12:19 pm

Wasn’t one member of Tura Satana a Hispanic sort of chap? They’re not the band to win over our Rosy, clearly.

In all fairness, I probably couldn’t listen to Tura Satana now. And Ms B. really, really was annoying.

I am slowly uploading more gig photos to my website, so this will come in handy! Woooot.

  17. Paul D said, on 29 April, 2008 at 7:46 pm

    Hi

Wow!!That’s a cool gig list there.

I was as GALLHAMMER show too at Barfly,GALLHAMMER were cool, but I AM COLOSSUS – a Birmingham based band apparently, were deffo band of the night, what did you think,I thought they were insane…….

    One to check out again!!!

  18. Russ L said, on 30 April, 2008 at 3:36 pm

I can’t say I was particularly fussed with ’em, myself.

  19. Steve Gerrard said, on 13 July, 2008 at 11:15 am

Whoah! I’m pretty certain I could not remember every band I ever saw but I wish I could.
I still have my AC/DC ticket from 1982!
Love the fact you’ve seen Cannibal Corpse and Britney. Imagine them together!

  20. Russ L said, on 14 July, 2008 at 7:11 am

Yup, a (very important) list like this is something you need to start pretty early on to have a chance of doing properly. Fortunately I have always been sad like that.

Can’t wait to see some of your Supersonic piccies!

  21. victoria said, on 29 December, 2009 at 5:58 pm

what do the numbers in brackets mean?

  22. Russ L said, on 29 December, 2009 at 6:39 pm

If I’ve seen a band multiple times, that’ll be how many.

Now I think of it, that probably isn’t as obvious as I thought it might be.

  23. Andy GI said, on 3 February, 2010 at 1:27 pm

Nice list, Nice to see Carina Round is still doing the (ahem) rounds, I still have the CD you insisted I buy a while ago. Its great. Will have to keep my eye out for her hitting manchester in the near future.

Nice to read that you are still alive.

    Andy

  24. Russ L said, on 3 February, 2010 at 6:20 pm

Northern Andy! Well I never. Long time no inter-speak.

I hope all is well for you, anyway. I have subscribed to the RSS feed of this roidh.co.uk of yours, so I’ll soon have some idea of what you’re up to lately.

  25. Sonority said, on 14 February, 2010 at 8:27 am

Hey, I just started uploading gigs i’ve been to.. different taste but similar concept ;)

  26. Russ L said, on 15 February, 2010 at 8:16 am

The ticket images are cool, I like that. Not entirely different taste, we seem to have quite a few overlapping artists – Roots Manuva, Nas, John Legend, Beyonce…

  27. Sonority said, on 17 February, 2010 at 11:45 pm

    Indeed we do :)

  28. andydaly said, on 25 May, 2010 at 2:43 am

You should get together with my mate Diff: all the gigs you haven’t been to, he has. He started with Hawkwind in 1976 (?) and has been doing 2 or 3 a week ever since. He’s seeen Hawkwind 742 times and is deaf as a post.

I’ll send him a link to your blog.

You might be interested/enraged or somewhere in between by these:

    http://andydaly.wordpress.com/2010/02/28/kwik-kwiz/ and http://andydaly.wordpress.com/2010/03/02/the-things-we-say-the-day-i-met-noddy/

I do apologise. The cheap shots at the Brummie accent and Birmingham in general are lowest common denominator stuff. They say more about me than anything else. The truth is, Brum is the city I know least; but it looks as if that will soon change as it seems likely my eldest will go there to Uni. He loves it! Anyway, I thought the encounter with Nodd was quite a giggle.

    Andy

  29. Russ L said, on 25 May, 2010 at 7:06 am

You carry on and mock Brummie accents for as long as you want – I’m from the Black Country. World o’ difference.
