Call me Russ L

MMA crystal ball

Posted in Combat Sports, Well, it passes the time by Russ L on 26 September, 2006

Just for fun (and reduced to the level of pointlessness by lack of analysis), here are my predictions for Cage Rage this coming Saturday. Note that these aren’t necessarily the results I’d like to see and that I’m not knocking anyone, just saying what I think will probably happen. It’s sad that such a disclaimer is needed, but such is life and such is the ubiquity of the near-meaningless term ‘hater.’

Mark Epstein vs Ian Freeman – Freeman, sub, R2
Murilo Rua vs Mark Weir – Rua, decision
Kimo Lepaldo vs Dave Legano – Kimo, TKO, R1
Buzz Berry vs Robert Broughton – Broughton, decision
Abdul Mohammed vs Vitor Ribeiro – Ribeiro, sub, R2
Tony Fryklund vs Alex Reid – Fryklund, decision
Mustafa Al-Turk vs Henry Miller – Al-Turk, sub, R1
Alexander Lungu vs Mark Buchanan – Lungu, TKO, R1
Sol Gilbert vs Paul Daley – Daley, TKO, R2
Brad Pickett vs Robbie Oliver – Pickett, decision
Alex Cook vs Xavier Foupa-Pokam – Cook, sub, R1
Zelg Galesic vs James E. Nicolle – Zelg, TKO, R3

~ Russ L, happy to accept drinks from those amazed at how accurate his predictions turn out to be.

‘Abdul Mohammed vs Vitor Ribeiro – Ribeiro, sub, R2’

Not seen Mohammed, so he might be amazing, but still… is round 1 about 16 seconds long or something?

Abby-Mo is yet to be subbed. There’s a first time for everything and it definitely seems to me that this will be it, but I reckon he can hang on for a round.

A first round finish wouldn’t exactly come as a shock to me, though.

My prediction for Alex Cook vs Prof. X is now “probably not likely to actually happen.” If it does go ahead I stick with Cook.

If anybody likes a little flutter, this website is giving some very, err, ‘interesting’ odds on three of the fights.

Right then. Using a scoring system of a point for the winner, and then if I’ve got that right a point each for round and method, I got fifteen out of a possible thirty-six.

This is not the sort of picking performance that has won me fabulous prizes in the past.
